THE PLACE WHERE TECHNOLOGISTS COLLABORATE, NETWORK AND TRAIN FOR TOMORROW
The South Carolina Chapter of Government Management Information Sciences (SCGMIS), established in 2001, is a statewide association of government technology leaders which provides an organizational structure, network and activities designed to enhance coordination among state, county, local government and public school agencies.
SCGMIS, a chapter within the GMIS International organization, is the first association of its kind in South Carolina to bring together the IT representatives of such organizations in order to offer a forum for the exchange of ideas, information and techniques; and to foster enhancements in hardware, software and communication developments as they relate to government activities.
Since its inception, SCGMIS has flourished and now serves a membership of governmental entities located throughout the Palmetto State. This membership includes cities, counties, school districts, state agencies, higher education institutions, regional libraries and other such public entities. A unique benefit of SCGMIS is that if your agency is a member, YOU are a member. Once the agency joins, all agency employees are considered members of SCGMIS and may attend its educational and networking events.
As information technology continues to evolve and become further entwined in our daily lives, all levels of government must find efficient and effective means of leveraging technology to better accomplish its goals. Government entities must now work together more than ever in the past, as this sharing of data and solutions can greatly benefit all. SCGMIS was designed to foster and encourage such sharing. We believe that through working together, sharing knowledge, and sometimes resources, we all benefit.
In 1971, a group of computer professionals, realizing all of us need help from time to time, organized GMIS International to foster sharing among all levels of government involved in our ever-changing world of technology. Not to be confused with other user groups, GMIS focuses solely on sharing situations related to government information processing.
The purpose of GMIS is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, information and techniques; to foster enhancement in hardware, software and communication developments as they relate to government activities.
